ReplyDeleteIt was good to see real white paper in a way that we can compare with the genuine case of white paper. I learnt quite a few things from this paper such as paper flows coherently and simple use of language. I think now I also have good feeling about the subtitles that should be included.

Smithfield is certainly embracing social media - love all the links. This not only demonstrates their involvement in social media but including links in the white paper invites employees to become involved as well. Do the employees in manufacturing have ability to access these sites during the day, in an effort to contribute or is it strictly management?

Given the increased prevalence of social media outlets, it only makes sense that organizations would utilize such outlets to promote their products, communicate their mission and values, as well as increase their market presence. Overall, I enjoyed your white paper very much. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteNicely done Steve. I think it is great how Smithfield is utilizing a variety of social media sites. In order to generate the greatest benefits from social media it is important to be active on multiple sites and update them regularly. Clearly, utilizing multiple platforms is a great way to increase value since you will reach a greater number of people and capitalize on each sites unique benefits. Also, updating your sites regularly will show your followers you are available to them. Further, if you do not provide regular updates followers may lose interest and stop visiting your sites. Thus, it is important to remember to routinely check and update your sites. I enjoyed viewing Smithfield's social media sites, as they gave some insight into what an organisation's sites should look like and contain. Thank you for attaching them.
ReplyDeleteI think it is great that Smithfield is taking advantage of utilizing a wide array of social media platforms to promote products, convey the company mission and the manner in which they conduct business, their commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, and their strive for environmental excellence. This will allow Smithfield to reach a bigger population of potential consumers and get the most out of the competitive advantage associated with social media.

Steve, your white paper covers the reasons why Smithfield uses social media - all of which make sense. The food industry finds another valuable advertising/PR platform in social media. From what I can gather, you have no hard and fast guidelines for employee use of social media. Apart from one consumer complaining about "worker abuse," it appears Smithfield employs someone who updates the site frequently.
